Exchangers

Exchangers, in older English usage, names the money changers who set up tables at the temple to convert pilgrims' currency into the coin required for the temple tax and for purchasing sacrificial animals. In John's temple action, their trade becomes the focal point: Jesus overturns the tables and drives out their commerce.
